Devised Theater *NEW*🌟

This theater course will explore contemporary approaches to making theater both in theory and practice. Each class will be focused around a theme and inspired by the works of one particular theater or performance maker from Brecht to La Pocha Nostra. A short introduction to various theater makers will happen in the first 15 minutes of every class, followed by a physical and vocal warm up. We will then experiment with a series of tasks helping us to devise our own texts, body languages, and performative concepts. The first half of the semester will be focused on individual work so each participant can get comfortable with their own creative inclinations, languages, and interests. The second half of the semester will lead us into duo and group work, allowing us to share our ideas with others while also being inspired and challenged by the process of collaboration.

This course is appropriate for both newcomers as well as more experienced theater makers. The aim of devised theater is not only about cultivating artistic expression inside the classroom, but also building the skills for creativity in everyday life, bringing the principles of theater into one's other activities and studies.
